Have you created your swap card yet?

Kim has. She is ready to go. Not I...after a Mom's group today I think my creative juices maybe out for the evening. I really should just call it a night....but knowing me I will probably work to the wee hours. But here is her card to enjoy and you may be getting one on Saturday if you are attending the All-Day! She used Let's Get Together and the March Stamp of the Month. Embellished with some ribbon and liquid glass. Beautiful.

What day is it?

Where has the time gone this week, I feel like it is Wed. and I am still doing the things that needed to be done on Wed. Well...I have to apoligize for allowing the blog to go so long without posts and artwork. Hopefully, you all will still visit. It is so hard to admit that everything your parents tell you comes true...like the older you get the faster it goes and when you have little ones time flys. So mom if you are reading this...you were right. Although, time flew I still have this new card made for you to enjoy. With new products from CTMH. Enjoy.

I have been working on new techniques to teach you this coming weekend. Also look out for the newsletter and all my workshop announcements and clubs.

Random Stamping Challenge

Who needs patterned paper, when you can create your own with CTMH stamps. I am in love with our new month stamp set. I used the May Word Puzzle and the April Word Puzzle to creat my invites for the month of May. Here is the best way to create random stamping. Send me your pics!

Random Stamping

Random stamping is a great way to create your own personalized background paper. However there are a few tips to keep in mind to help create a great “random” stamped piece.

1. Start with your biggest stamp first.

2. Continue adding more images with gradually smaller stamps.

3. Let images touch and even overlap.

4. For depth uses 2nd & 3rd generation images.

5. Don’t feel you have to fill every available space just because the stamp will fit into a “hole.”

6. Stamp off the edge of the paper.

Tip: When first learning this technique you may want to use only one ink color with each stamp. You may also want to create “triangles” as you work your way across the page.

Get Inspired

Have you ever sat down with your wonderful Close To My Heart products and had no idea where to start or what to create next? Do you tend to create the same types of cards, layouts, and other projects? Do you browse the Internet for fresh ideas? Do you constantly thumb through your Idea Books, Cherish™, Reflections Scrapbook Program™, and Originals Card Confidence Program™, wondering what you can add to these designs to make them really unique? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you need a bit of help getting inspired! How do you do that? Here are some ideas.

Finding Inspiration

There are resources all around us that can inspire our creativity. We need to find new ways to look at the things that surround us every day. Keep an inspiration journal or log book of your thoughts and ideas as you look around you for inspiration. As you discuss the different locations listed below and how you can find creative inspiration, also discuss ways you can think “outside the box” and use your ideas on your layouts, cards, and other paper craft ideas.

At the department store:

What clothes are grouped together? What clothing designs are the hot trends?
What embellishments are used on the clothes? What patterns and color combinations catch your eye?
What shoes and handbags are the latest craze?
What about belts, hair accessories, and jewelry?
Are the accessories simple or extravagant?
What are the designs and patterns?
What do the displays look like?
What shapes and colors are used to grab your attention?

At the fabric store:

Are there color swatches and embellishments the store personnel will give you to add to your journal?
What patterns and color combinations catch your eye?
What are the latest new quilt patterns? Sketch the patterns in your journal.
What do the displays look like? What shapes and colors are used to attract your attention?

At the hardware store:

Collect samples from the wallpaper aisle and add them to your journal.
What wood types and textures can you recreate from the lumber aisle? Are there free samples or brochures of wood finishes or wood textures?
Browse the paint aisle for new wall treatment techniques. Are there free samples or brochures of wall treatments?
In the kitchen display area, what surfaces are the hot trends? What do the cabinets look like? What patterns from the cabinets or the surfaces can you recreate in your artwork? Sketch the designs in your journal.
What drawer pulls catch your eye in the cabinet hardware aisle? What designs appeal to you? Sketch the designs in your journal.

At the grocery store:

How is the produce aisle set up? How do the cucumbers look against the lettuce? Do the various hues work well together? What if you added a yellow bell pepper to the mix? Or an eggplant?
What other aisles can you look to for inspiration? What about the cereal aisle, the candy aisle, etc.?
What do the displays look like? What shapes and colors are used to capture your attention?
At school:
Notice what details grab your attention in the following places: playground, auditorium, child’s classroom, teachers lounge, cafeteria, etc.
What details draw you in to look further on a college campus? Is it the art building, the theater, the food sciences building, the administration building, the horticulture building, the geology building, etc.? What can the architecture inspire in your art?

At the park:

What are the shapes and colors of the leaves? Collect samples and duplicate their fine details in your art. This detail doesn’t have to be used just for leaves in your art; it can be used for a weathered look or for a background.
What kinds of animals and insects do you see? What are the colors in the butterflies, the inchworms, the squirrels, the birds, etc.? What are the intricate details that make up the animals and the insects? Try to duplicate the fluffy fur of the squirrels, the birds’ feathers, or the designs in the butterfly wings.
What inspires you in the landscape? What kinds of designs are created? What are the flower combinations? What kinds of trees are used? What are the landscape decorations and the water features? Could you use Liquid Glass to recreate the flow of the water features?

At the spa:

What decorations do you notice right away? Do you notice unusual paintings, tropical flowers, plush rugs, etc.?
Sometimes spas have very high-end decorations in the rest room; take a gander and see what inspiration you find. What kinds of light fixtures are used? What about the faucet? The sink? What tile and countertops are used? Is brushed nickel used? If so, can you recreate that effect? Try to duplicate the surfaces and patterns.

Challenge this week is to be inspired by somewhere you go on a weekly basis!

Create in Bulk

We all need cards that is a given, but the key is to create in bulk. If you want your cards to be beautiful and save you money. You need to create a design being sure to keep the measurements so that you can cut in bulk. Create in bulk and save time and money. This is how I approach my business and my personal cards because I want to get the most out of my time and supplies. Here is a little card that I created in bulk about 40 you may just get one in the mail soon!

Challenge of the week 4/14-4/20

Your challenge should you choose to accept it, is to you the following technique in a card or layout of your choice!

Sanding Only works with paper that has a white core. Lightly sand with fine sandpaper, wire brush, steel wool, sanding block or emery board. You can sand just the edges, all over in one direction, in two directions, or even over a textured item like a spiral clip, stamp, or button

I am officially back!

Wow...what can I say about the retreat...it was great.

I drove as fast as my little Scion would allow, with only 103 HP less then most motorcycles I can go about 80 without feeling like I might kill the engine. I arrived at the pass at around 9:30am I think two people beat me! Needless to say I got there, talked for about an hour then dragged everything I owned into the building as the front desk clerk starred in wonder!

Side note: If you have never been to a retreat ... you would be amazed...scrapbookers bring everything with them some people require more then one cart. I however, filled up one by myself and realizes gone are the days when I can ride with a friend. I cannot fit a friend into my car and I am sorry not sacrificing one piece of paper to bring you! I will waive to you as I drive by.

Back to the retreat... I struggled to get started right off the bat. I was just uninspired so I made the cards you see above and then I went to the bar looking for inspiration...I didn't find it there, but I did find some cold ones.

Friday morning after I scared my roommate half to death, because I sleep walk and talk...I was able to actually achieve a couple pages that I am rather proud of. I will post pictures as soon as I find my memory card or buy a new one. We laughed a lot and talked a lot and got mostly nothing done. After dinner we returned and finished up are projects. But it was someones birthday I forget who...so we went to the bar. However, before I could get more then one drink in me, the Mexican bartender very nice made it clear he wanted to go home by turning the music up so loud that no conversation but sign language could be heard.

Saturday morning I got up late...rushed to get prepared for a party I had in Samammish and shot done the mountain, once again petal pinned! I had a good party and went even faster home to the retreat. I was so afraid I was going to miss Italian Night! I was the last one up around 4am and actually managed to pull out some fabulous pages!

Sunday is always sad and a rush to make it appear that the $300.00 you paid for the retreat the $100.00 in product at the retreat, the $500.00 before the retreat, and the bar tab was not all in vain and that your husband actually will see some pages completed! So I worked until they kicked me out. Drove home at 80mph and I am still trying to unpack!

I vow...

Okay, I am a bad example of being inspired everyday! I did not do my own challenge yet, but i vow to do it while I am away at my scrap retreat this weekend. I am so excited...but I have to admit I am not prepared at all. You are probably wondering if I have found my memory card...the answer is no. But don't cry for me, I was able to get enough unfinished photos off my computer, email to Target and pick up today! They are not exactly how I like them but they will do... I am scrapbooking come hell or high water.

I will however include this layout that is not all CTMH for you to look at! Some random stamping and buttons were done with CTMH and the rest is Scenic Route. It is my current fav and has been scraplifted fair and square right out of a magizine!

I will type at you on Monday with lots of artwork, funny stories and some newly found inspiration!

AHHH....HELP!!!

I am in a panic! Here I am about to go on a four day scrapbook retreat and I have lost the one thing that is absolutely essential to the scrapbooker - her life line - her reason for living...okay maybe I took it a step to far, but nearly her reason for living! I have lost my memory card you know that little tiny micro chip thingy that holds all of your digital pictures. The little thingy that I have been telling myself I need to develop and transfer the 500 photo's to actual prints so that I can scrapbook them! Isn't it funny how are mom's had the same issue except that it was a roll of film rather then a memory card. I personally think they were better off because at least there roll only held 27 photos so if they were an (idiot) and lost the roll, it hasn't the first five years of there child's life.

So here I am, in a panic...the worst part about it...is it is my fault (did I just admit that on the web, to be forever remembered?) because I remember thinking and I know you have thought this so don't laugh...this is important I will put it somewhere so I don't loss it!

So now I am considering the possibility of scrapbooking all weekend long without a photo, a inspiration, or camera to take pictures of this disaster! I guess I could just hang out in the hotel bar without a care in the world! I could use that, but I know about ten minutes after I get home I will find the tiny thingy in the very smart place I put it!

Inspired by my husband!

My husband has inspired me in so many ways! He has so many amazing qualities that I love him for! He strives for perfection in anything he does and though he does not alway succeed he stays focused on the task at hand. He never leaves a task unfinished or a project undone. Everything he does, he does at a 100% or he does not do it at all. He also takes really good care of his things and us! This layout shows him striving to perfect the game. The products are a mesh of CTMH and Scenic Route!

Inspired By The New Catalog!

Amy a good friend and teamate of mine was inspired by our new catalog and the May STOM. She found inspiration in pops of color! Thanks Amy!
